It's a great time to plant some perennial shrubs before things really heat up in the summer. We've gathered a list of our most popular easy care blooming shrubs.  Starting off the list is the ever popular Hydrangea. Full of big beautiful blooms in white, blue, purple and pink. Many do well in partial shade and some do well in full sun, like limelight.

1. Hydrangea

We've gathered a list of our most popular easy care blooming shrubs.  Starting off the list is the ever popular Hydrangea. Full of big beautiful blooms in white, blue, purple and pink. 2. Elderberry

This Black Lace Elderberry is just starting to bloom.  It's rich feathery leaves and edible berries are a delight in the  early fall. They can grow up to 7 - 8 feet tall and as wide. Here are a few recipes for using Elderberry. Elderberry Pie and  Elderberry Syrup.

 3. Weigela

What's not to love about Weigela? This easy care shrub does well in full sun and is a constant bloomer from May to first frost in zones 4-8. Pictured above is Wine and Roses Weigela.

4. Rose of Sharon


Rose of Sharon is from the tropical looking Hibiscus family. But it does well in zones 5-9. Very erect but occasionally spreading shrub or small tree. Late to leaf out in spring with medium to dark green foliage in summer, holding late and yellow fall color. We have it available in red, pink, and purple.

 5. Spirea

Magic Carpet Spirea pictured above. This shrub comes in white, purple, red and pink. It's striking colored blooms all summer. Most varieties have a neat mounded shape. They will grow  up to 3-4 ft wide and tall. Great for zones 3-8. Great for borders or butterfly gardens.

6. Lilac


Miss Kim above. What would springtime be without lilacs? The sweet smell of lilacs wafting through the air on a warm spring day is just heaven. They love the sun and do well in zones 3-8. They do require a cold dormant time  to bloom. So warmer temps they don't fare as well. They are deer resistant and can last many many years. 7. Rhododendron

 

PJM Rhododendron pictured above. Has a rounded growth habit. Foliage is small and dark green and shrubs are deciduous in our area. Lavender-pink flowers bloom in spring. Requires well drained soil.They look great in groups. 

8. Viburnum


Birkwood Viburnum pictured above. Viburnum with it's glossy leaves, attractive flowers, fruit and deer resistance is a great addition to your garden. Growing up to 8 feet tall it will need room to spread. Zones 5-8. 

9. Butterfly Bush


Pink delight butterfly bush pictured above. Summer colors of white, pink, purple and more. Showy flowers spikes are fragrant and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Good background or accent plant. Vigorous grower.  Zone 5-9.


10. Potentilla


McKay's Potentilla pictured above. Rounded, spreading growth habit. Soft green foliage in summer and fall. Creamy white flowers that bloom all summer. Moist, well drained soils. Zones 2-7.
